The Cast are Dice 2011 is coming up next weekend. Unfortunately, I’m going to miss it again as I’m on holiday in Italy. However, here are the details:

When: Saturday 20th August 2011 & Sunday 21st August 2011

Times: 10am to 10pm Saturday, 10am to 8pm Sunday

The best board gaming weekend in the UK is finally back!

After two very successful events in 2006 and 2007, there is a new venue for this year, which meets the organiser’s (rather fussy) requirements of being light, clean, airy, and above all family-friendly.

Among other things, there will be:

– A massive games library of approximately 500 titles (or more)

– A shop at the venue where snacks and drinks can be bought

– Other places to eat and drink within easy walking distance

– A hotel for those that need to stay overnight also within very easy walking distance.

– Colour name badges (including BGG avatars, if required) for all weekend tickets booked in advance!

– A free game with every £15 weekend ticket booked in advance!

Now, the Shrewsbury Boardgames Club has been going a lot longer than ten years but this month marks the tenth anniversary of me moving back to Shrewsbury and diligently recording our escapades on the web. The earliest screen dump I could get from the Wayback Machine was from May 2003 but, if you look at our archive session reports, you’ll see the first was dated 20th July 2001 when Nige, Mark K, Ben Kipp, John Williams and I played Alan Moon’s Das Amulett and Capitol (actually, John watched Capitol as he needed to leave early).

So happy anniversary to us.

The second episode of the new video podcast is now out and this time they concentrate on Descent and its expansions, together with shorter bits on other dungeon crawlers Heroquest and Dungeonquest. One or two nice humorous moments again – trousers of speed, anyone?
